Train for life means constantly adapting your workout to strengthen and prepare your body for every activity, sport or personal adventure you have in mind.  

Life happens outside the gym.  Our goal is to build a strong, diverse community of athletes in pursuit of living bold & adventurous lives. CrossFit is our primary method. We work hard to make Maxmead Fitness the best part of your day!

We are a gym who focus on professional men & women who want a bit of "badass" in their life, look good and be strong.

Our Code for Fitness

Primal Movements; Accessory work to develop Stability and Mobility; Skill Development; Varied Movements; Intensity and Energy are pathways to Fitness for life.

We encourage you to try new things, stay active by playing sports, going on adventures, and experiencing nature. The Code for Fitness will enhance your physical fitness and energy. It was developed around longevity and quality of life: we want you to be the best you can be.

Clan Maxmead

Buaidh no bas is Gaelic for Conquer or Die.  It is embedded in the McDowell family crest, and a call to action for the Maxmead Family.  Our community pulls together to support each other as we conquer each goal.

Everyone's goals are different, and the Maxmead family respects that.  In fact, we are inspired by the variety and diversity or accomplishments. 

The family that plays together, stays together.  We feel community, and involvement is a key factor to long term success and endurance.  Together, we enjoy adventures from an inspired hike, to a competition team, we try it all.

Our Head Coach, Ryan McDowell, has been using the CrossFit method since 2006 and Certified L1 Instructor since 2008. Maxmead Fitness believes in constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity. Come visit us and see how we CrossFit.  Train for Life.

WHAT IS FITNESS

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program. We have designed our program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten fitness domains: Cardiovascular Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

Our CrossFit Program was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks. Our athletes are trained to perform successfully at diverse physical challenges outside the gym. This fitness is demanded of military and police personnel, firefighters, and many sports requiring total or complete physical prowess. 

UNIQUE IN APPROACH

Aside from the breadth or totality of fitness the CrossFit Program seeks, our program is distinctive, if not unique, in its focus on maximizing movement ability & developing power. We start with One-on-One Training to prepare you for the CrossFit experience.

Our athletes are trained for exposure and competency in each of the three main metabolic pathways.

We train our athletes in gymnastics from rudimentary to advanced movements.  We also place an emphasis on Barbell Lifts including Olympic Weightlifting having seen this sport’s unique ability to develop an athletes’ explosive power. And finally we encourage and assist our athletes to explore a variety of sports and activities to express and apply their fitness.

Ryan McDowell

Ryan McDowell

Ryan brings a true passion to coaching and teaching. Specializing in building better athletes by improved movement, Ryan combines this unique focus with knowledge and experience in movement assessment, strength training, and corrective exercise.

Ryan has 20 years experience with over 12,000 hours as a personal trainer, strength coach, instructor, and trainer of small and large groups. In addition to training, Ryan has conducted over 220 presentations for corporate, civic, athletic, and philanthropic organizations. He spent 3 years working with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badger football, soccer, and wrestling teams.

A lifelong athlete, Ryan spent 12 years as a D1 college and Senior Men's club Rugby player.  

He lives in Hopkins with his wife and 4 children. Ryan enjoys spending time with his family, working out with sandbags, and coaching rugby.

 Son Do

Son Do

A veteran of the US Army, Son Do has 5 years of experience as a personal trainer, strength coach, and CrossFit coach in both large and small gyms. His passion for teaching movement and pushing everyone, including himself, to be the best possible comes across every time he teaches.

We value our clients as we do our visitors. We want to make sure that you have the best experience when visiting Maxmead Fitness.

Please contact us, by filling out a form ahead of time, so we can get to know you prior to joining our classes.
